About this Recipe
,By: Luci Conkling
Once again, this classic American breakfast dish is my roommate’s favorite. Pretty much every Sunday the two of us would get up and make a big breakfast with biscuits and gravy, eggs, and sometimes breakfast potatoes. Oof. Just typing that I think I realize how I got that freshman..I mean sophomore “15”. At any rate, it’s delicious, quick, and helped us get ready for a day full of studying.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup of Gluten free all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
If you are gluten free you know that making anything gluten free, that is not supposed to be, is really just trial and error. I really like this recipe for gluten free biscuits and gravy. My roommate and I used to make it every Sunday morning. For the all purpose flour I use Bob’s Red Mill one to one baking flour. I just really like the texture and it seems to be the most reliable “one-to-one” gluten free flour to me.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Step 2
In a medium bowl, blend together everything but milk and vinegar to a fine crumb.
Step 3
Add the milk and vinegar and mix well until combined into a pasty, soft dough. (It will be super fragile.)
Step 4
Pat out dough onto a greased baking sheet to 1/2 inch thickness.
Step 5
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits begin to brown.
Step 6
Brush with melted butter (optional). Enjoy!

Gravy for Biscuits

Ready In:
10- 15 min
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 pound breakfast sausage (and grease made from sausage)
- 1 teaspoon of parsley
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 cup of Gluten free all purpose flour
I used the same gluten free all purpose baking flour for the gravy as I used for the biscuits. These are also rough estimates for what I actually add in. I don’t usually measure everything out. I kind of just eyeball it. For a healthier gravy you could try substituting the breakfast sausage with your favorite vegan crumble.
Step 1
Brown the breakfast sausage in a medium skillet.
Step 2
Turn the pan down to a medium heat and slowly start adding flour to the grease.
Step 3
Once the flour and grease have started to make a paste, slowly start adding the milk.
Step 4
Continue to whisk together flour and milk to the sausage and grease until you get a smooth consistency. Add more milk or flour if needed to get the correct consistency.
Step 5
Once you get to the desired consistency season the gravy to taste.
Step 6
Spoon on top of biscuits and enjoy!
